is this from file and print sharing disabled?

My firewall has file and print sharing disabled on both external and
internal interfaces... I didn't think I would need it. And its good
practice. However, I am curious about behaviour of command run remotely now.
I can just go to the machine locally and do what I need to so I have not
really looked into it.. but again.. I would like to know the cause for sure.
Below are a couple examples of what is happening. My question is, is this a
result of File and Print Sharing being disabled on the internal (lan facing)
network card? That card only has tcp/ip and client for ms networks enabled.

net view \\computername results in: "system error 53 has occured. the
network path was not found" Its not a name resolution issue.. ping hostname
works just fine.

and other commands that take \\computername as a paramater fail with other
errors like "RPC Service not available" or something similiar.. usually
containing a reference to RPC though.

any info is greatly appreciated. thanks.

(I know, I could just enable it and see... I'm not because I'm just curious
on this one... it doesn't HAVE to be done. And I generally don't fiddle with
ANY setting on a production server unless I really HAVE to....)
