I got a copy of Windowblinds 4.0 online and really like it. The program is
free to download and free to use, however you can upgrade to an "enhanced"
version for money. Also there is a nag screen when you turn on your
computer which reminds you that you "can" purchase the enhanced version,
although you can just hit a button and it goes away.

Would you consider this freeware?

That to me is nagware/liteware, not freeware.

Why do you care what anybody else thinks?

If it works for you and you can live with the nag, it's freeware to
you.

I do the same thing with TextPad - it nags every time I start it for a
few seconds. I can live with that. So it's freeware to me - or more
precisely I consider it "original concept shareware" - i.e., you gave
it to me, and you accept that only 5-15% of your users will pay you
for it.

Don't bother asking purists what is or is not freeware as far as your
own interests are. As for as this newsgroup, they have a FAQ which is
loaded with nit-picking definitions that you are free to ignore if you
don't mind being flamed for it.

Hang on! Isn't that exactly what the "freeware" version of Mailwasher does?
I have seen it recommended several times on this NG and it's even on the
PriclessWare site.
Why isn't it considered nagware?

Which just goes to show that there is room for disagreement and multiple
opinions in this group without impacting the validity of any one opinion.

Mailwasher is free (freeware).
It also asks for support (nagware).
So it's both freeware and nagware.

It can't be both nagware and freeware..... it's one or the other, and as it
nags you.... it's nagware, NOT freeware!

I BEG TO DIFFER. The nags are free, so it's freeware.

.. . .

My argument is inspired by a classic from the ACF archives. The statement
below was made in earnest.

Heh! Reminds me, Duddits recently had this in his sig file:

"If a man speaks in the forest and there's no
woman there to hear him, is he still wrong ?"

Of course it is not a real question - its answer being an indisputable YES.
Or, "Yes. And We Need to Talk."
