Is this a virus?

My computer freezes up once every hour (almost to the minute!) regardless
of amount of use that it's undergoing (even with minimal applications
running). Anybody hear of such a virus that might cause a phenomenon like
this to happen?

Sounds like you might have some application set to update
(check mail, time) that is colliding with something else.
