is this a operating system problem?

I have a windows 2k professional machine alpha. After
rebooting the alpha, it is unable to connect to the LAN.
It sees the domain folder. However it does not connect to
it. The network card is fine, because I am able to
connect to the internet without a problem. I have
reloaded TCP/IP and client for MS network on alpha. The
Server states . the network path was not found to alpha.
I time out when I try to ping alpha. And receive a
unknown host using the ip address. Is this a operating
system problem? Any suggestions?

thanks

Some things to check..

Do you use DHCP or static IP? Use ipconfig to verify configuration
Verify DNS/WINS settings.
Can you ping 127.0.0.1? If not then TCP/IP is broke.
Can you ping any other IP address on your network?
Do you have a physical link on the network adapter?

just wanted to tell, that for a second, i thought u were
using w2k for alpha servers :-), which i think exists, but
isn't for sale. Anyway, have a nice day everybody.
