Dear readers,

Hello, there! As the title suggest, is there such thing as
thermal-printable DVD-RAM discs? In essence, what I would like to know
is if DVD-RAM discs are compatible with thermal printers, for instance,
with the TEAC P-11 thermal printer.

Before I am asked why I am interested in DVD-RAM discs, well, a friend
of mine has many DVD-RAM discs, so I can very probably get them very
cheap (or even trade them). And while DVD-R discs and/or DVD+R discs,
et. al., are also cheap, I want to help my friend while helping myself.
Besides, I have nothing against DVD-RAM discs (unless they are
unprintable).

Best to all,

I have used the Casio thermal printer on single-sided DVD-RAM....the main
problem I have is that mine were not smooth tops.....

Hello, Quanta!

It is great to have you here.

When you said that your disc tops were not smooth when using your
thermal printer, do you mean the tops of DVD-RAM discs only or the tops
of DVD-RAM discs and DVD-+ discs, etc.? If this applies to all type of
discs, then I suppose that it is possible to print smoothly on all
areas if a better compatible thermal printer is used (maybe the TEAC
P-11?).

On a related note, if your disc tops were not smooth, did you try
re-printing the discs after having done the first printing? I have
heard that this makes the characters/graphics darker.

Take care,

It is my understanding that thermal printing on any disc must be done on a
disc without any embossing (logos of manufacturer, etc). The transfer
cannot smoothly navigate the edges of any embossed area.

Absolutely. But if you get cartridge-enclosed DVD-RAM discs and get rid
of the cartridges, the bare discs, I believe, do not have any printing.
That is what I seem to recall from my own cartridge-enclosed DVD-RAM
discs. So, again, aren't they suitable for thermal printing?

Sorry, I can't answer this. I think so...but my RAMs were without cartridge
to start with.

You can print on any surface as long as there's room for it and it's not an
inkjet ready type of surface. The Casio CW-100 for instance, has a sliding
drawer just above the disc tray. There's scribe lines in the template to
help line up the disc. If you're asking if there are blank RAM discs, that I
don't know.
There is a slight possibility of screwing up a disc if you print after
burning. So I don't know if it makes logical sense to print to DVD-RAM.
