Is there anyway to restore a document that was overwritten?

i accidentally saved over a very important document with a blank one. is
there any way to get back the original document?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, if you have overwritten it, it is gone.
 
Are you on Vista? If so you can right click the file and select 'restore
previous version'. Otherwaise it's bad news. Unless you e-mailed it to
someone and it may be in your sent items, or they may be able to send it
back...
