Is there anyway to go back after system recovery?

Hi all,

I have what is probably a silly question but anyway - here goes:- I was
having problems with my computer, which was still under warranty so I
contacted the help desk of the manufacturer. At first they thought it was a
software conflict, and so we went into the recovery console and deleted
everything so the computer was back to factory condition. I later discovered
the problem was with the LCD screen on the computer and have had the screen
replaced and it now works beautifully. However there was a particular couple
of file that I needed from prior to doing the recovery,(and they weren't
picked up when I backed up) and I am wondering if there is anyway to go back
to prior to the recovery and retrieve the file or is it all just gone forever?

Hi,

It's probably gone. Those proprietary manufacturer recovery routines
essentially do a wipe and reload. Data from the original installation was
likely overwritten during the recovery operation. There is a small chance
that it may not have been affected, and there are plenty of data recovery
tools freely available on the web that you can use for this (here is one I
like that's easy to use: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/restoration.html).
Otherwise, any recovery would require expensive forensic tools and a data
recovery specialist.
