is there any way to restore PST msg files?

Hello.

I backed up a friends large (read 600 megs) message file from an Outlook
2002 program.

It was to re-format and restore a corrupted Windows ME system.

On restoration and reinstalling Outlook 2002, it would not import the old
"pst folder".

Is there any kind of a trick to this?

What happens if you try to open the file with Outlook's File | Open |
Outlook DAta File command?
