I don't have any use of files stored in the Recent
directory. Is there a way to disable Windows to put the
file links there? Thanks.

It can be disabled but re-routed selectively, would be tricky.

Kelly, Did you mean the use of EditFlags [excluding certain file types for the recent docs]? If so, it's very tricky as you said, especially if BINARY.

Hi Ivan,

The recent files folder is a piece of work of its own. It can be disabled
but re-routed selectively, would be tricky. Will add it to my to do list,
again. Good luck in the meantime.

Yes, Ramesh. I dabbled with it some time last year. Will add it back to
the list! :o)

Me too! I've tried that a month back and discontinued with that [i absolutely had no idea how to read the BINARY, convert and update it to the key as BINARY values using VB, though the logic is clear]. Will wait for David to come to the show..... :o)

All the Best! for your 'to do' project.

Getting tougher than expected. This function actually writes as REG_NONE, may be I missed a parameter. Rest all can be managed I think.

Please post the REG export of this key:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
Open Registry Editor > File > Export.

Hi Kelly,

Unfortunately your key for disabling Recent files didn't
help. I still have the folder displayed in the Start menu
and the files going there!?

Try this.

Right click on a blank portion of your task bar and choose Properties
On the Start Menu tab, click the Customize... button.
At the bottom of the Advanced tab, uncheck "List my most recently
opened documents.'

Since the *.reg file fix that Ramesh and Kelly gave you didn't
work, this may not either, but it's worth a shot.
