| Windows does not, never has, included any antivirus protection and the
| firewall included in XP is only marginally able to protect the
| user/system. The flaw in the firewall is that most applications can now
| auto-create exceptions in the firewall without you knowing about it.
| Third party firewalls, while not perfect, have less exposure to that
| flaw.

Never say never, it lasts forever...
FYI:
Windows DID have a stock anti virus. It was MSAV an OEM of Central Point Anti Virus (CPAV).
This goes back to Win3.1x. Central point software was bought by Norton and the Kernel of
CPAV was integragted into Norton AV and it was what made NAV a *better* product.
WinXP, Win2K and Win2003 Server does have the Malicious Software Removal Tool (MRT) which is
an "On Demand" anti malware scanner not unlike McAfee/AVERT Stinger. It is availble via
Windows Update Web Site or via a manual download. Once used, it can always be used again to
perform an "On Demand" scan...

| The MSRT does not come stick with those, it was an update, and it's not
| a viable tool.

Yes. It doesn't come stock but comes as a montly download. However it is a viable tool,
that is to some degree.
