Well, first of all Excel deals not only with tables. It could be a chart as well. This would make for very messy text. What you probably want is for the excel to be converted to HTML. Since every computer comes equiped to read HTML you would be far better off looking for that tool. There are a few that can do it. I use Frontpage myself with owc (office web components). You can find a download at
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...familyid=beb5d477-2100-4586-a13c-50e56f101720
From what I gather, you don't have access to Excel and you need to view or modify an excel file. There are viewers that might help you part ways through this but have never needed a viewer so I am no help there (not that you are needing that kind of help).
I have created Webpages that link to an excel sheet that a computer without excel could open that workbook. You can pull one off my webserver at

I don't know that I am being any help to you, but then one never knows.
if you can't get the owc to work I have a link to what I used when developing these pages here:

Have fun

ps Don, I think your date is a bit off as well.
You either don't know that your date is wrong or are deliberately doing this to stay at the top of the list. Either way, most will simply delete your message. Suggest that this is not in your best interests to "make friends"
Gentry,
Is there any opensource tool/lib that can convert excel to text without help of excel ?
Thanks,
Tim
