Is there any easy way to delete a selected doc section?

In the old days, we could easily select a few words or a section in the
Microsoft Word and hit the 'Delete' button and the selected portion
of the document would vanish.

Is there any easy way to setup the Microsoft Word XP to do the same?

Appreciate help.

It still works the same. By default, selecting text and hitting delete will
remove the text.

However, if you have Track Changes turned on it will turn red rather than
disappearing.
Or if you have "Havigation keys for WordPerfect users" turned on (in
Tools->Options, General Tab), then rather than disappearing right away, you
will be prompted to "Delete Block? No (Yes)" in the Status Bar.

If neither of the above help, then what seems to happen when you hit the
Delete key?

Hope this helps.

Nothing happens as you described. Is there any easy way to
re-activate the 'delete' button? Amusing, the 'delete' button
works OK in Outlook Express, but not in Word, in Microsoft Office XP.

Still need some help.

Typically this is caused by the WP options found under
Tools/Options/General. Did you verify both the WP Help and WP
Navigation options were turned off as Nick suggested?

If you did verify both WP options were turned off then use the
following to determine if the Delete key is assigned to the EditClear
command:
- Press Ctrl + Alt + Plus (+ on the 10 key pad - your mouse pointer
will look like a clover)
- Press the Delete key

Result: The Customize Keyboard dialog box should open for Edit/Clear
and under Current keys you should see "Del". If there is no key
assignment, make sure your cursor is in the "Press new shortcut key"
text box, press the Delete key, and then click "Assign".
