Is there any downside to specifying the NOGUIBOOT option?

I would rather have time to look at the boot messages than see the pretty
screen.

Your misunderstanding the /NOGUIBOOT switch. This simply disables the VGA
driver from loading, prior to the XP boot screen which results in a blank
screen during this boot period. It does nothing to enable you to see any
progress screens.

You may be thinking about the "Post" screen which is controlled in the BIOS
settings for the computer.

Or the /sos switch that list driver names (too fast to read).

Yes. XP puts up its (useless) screen and prevents me from seeing the boot
messages (such as disk status).

With W98 one could remove that and see the messages.

I noticed that someone stated that specifying the option in W2K could cause
trouble and was wondering if XP had the same problem.

Is there a way to prevent XP from wiping them off the screen for a few
seconds?
