I am trying to find a file renamer that can also check for filenames that
would be invalid if I tried to burn them to CD. I know there is/was one,
but I can't seem to locate it. I can't seem to come up with that magic
combination of search terms that yeilds the pot o' gold. Many antethanks.

Long Filename Finder

Many CD-R mastering programs limit the length of the filenames that
can be stored on the CD-R. In some cases, this length is as short as 62
characters. Your files can easily have names that exceed the limit,
especially for multimedia files such as MP3 that contain artist, album,
title, track number information. Before backing up to CD-R, you must
rename all your files so that none of the filenames exceed the limit.

Never before has this been so easy.

Thanks, Susan! You just made my life easier.

I just tried out the program you listed and it does exactly what it is
supposed to. Very simple to use.

Thank you, Susan. Its definitely a good program. I shall keep it handy.

However, I still need to be able to check for invalid characters.

The filenames, in this particular instance, do not exceed the 62-64
character limitation. They are however auto-generated from subject lines of
my email correspondence and therefore occasionally end up with invalid
characters - not invalid on a hard drive filesystem, but invalid for a CD
filesystem.
