HP PSC 2210 All-in-one printer/fax/scanner/copier... desktop
inkjet... Version? C8654A.

And I've always LOVEd this machine.

The carriage assembly that slides left and right with the ink
cartridges stopped moving. I disassembled the printer... found the 2
plastic parts behind the ink cartridges, that slide on the round steel
bar. Those 2 plastic parts are held together by 2 Very Small rubber
parts. Those 2 tiny rubber parts broke. I contacted HP, and various
local printer repair shops... cannot get those 2 tiny rubber parts
('cause HP would prefer that I buy a new printer, rather than fix this
one). So, I glued them back together with the 2 plastic parts... re-
assembled the printer... seems like it should work... it turns
on... it makes noises... the carriage assembly slides left and
right... then it Beeps a few times and the display reads... "Open
door, Clear carriage jam, and then press Enter".

Any clues?
Sure, I can disassemble it again.
What should I be looking for in that area?
Was I supposed to connect that assembly to the belt in EXACTLY the
same spot that it was originally connected?

Thanks very much, people.

It's quite likely the "carriage jam" message is caused by not
threading a clear ribbon in the proper place. The clear ribbon
contains very fine detail the optical sensor uses to monitor the
printer head's movement and maintain proper alignment. If that ribbon
is out of place or anything blocking the sensor, you will probably get
false jam message.

Nearly all parts used in ink jet printers are propierty so you can't
order a generic 3rd party parts. HP generally don't like to sell
spare parts outside the authorized repair centers and the repair
center charges an arm and a leg just to tell you it's broken, then
another armm and a leg for a new part, and finally your first born
(plus your second born if your first is not virgin) to install the new
part and test the printer.

You might have a better luck looking for an used printer on eBay. Once
you get another printer off eBay, you can take a look and see how
exactly the belt is supposed to be hooked together so you could fix
your old one. Or use the one from eBay as your main printer and your
old printer as spare part.

(e-mail address removed) disgust me. (e-mail address removed) spams a lot in game
so I am posting (e-mail address removed) as often as possible so (e-mail address removed)
would start getting spammed (e-mail address removed) eye for an eye. for good
luck, (e-mail address removed) and (e-mail address removed)

The other likelihood is that the carriage actually is slowing down a little
because the repair has increased the friction between the carriage and the
carriage bar that it travels on; this will cause a carriage jam indication.
A very small amount of light machine oil may help, otherwise nothing except a
new carriage is going to be effective. Unfortunately you can't buy parts for
this printer, not even HP repair shops can do that. Your idea of a second hand
printer is probably the only way to go.

Your best bet may be to buy another 2210 on E-Bay, either as a
replacement or as a parts source. Should be dirt cheap (will cost more
to ship than to buy, probably).

EXCELLENT ! Brilliant, Impmon ! THANKS Very Much.

I found a "channel" behind the cartridges / carriage assembly, and fed
that clear plastic strip thru it... It Works!

It woulda' been a Real Shame to throw out this printer just because of
a nickel's worth of rubber parts.

Thanks very much, people.

Now, it's acting weird.
It actually had been sitting (broke) for several months, but now it's
fixed.
After the fix, it would act like copying, but only Blank pages came
out.

I pushed the buttons for Setup / Maintenance / Align print cartridges
and Setup / Maintenance / Clean print cartridges
and the 6 colored squares print very nicely, but nothing prints in
Black.

I found a post on how to clean the ink cartridges with water/amonia...
I did that (to the Black ink cartridge only), and then it printed OK.

Now, I tell it to Copy (black, not color)... it works Great.
I immediately tell it to Copy again... a Blank page comes out.
After 5 minutes... Copy... it works great.
immediately after that... Copy... a Blank page comes out.

It works well... for only 1 page every 5 minutes.

What's up?
Is the ink in the cartridge PARTIALLY "dried up"?
Is there a fix for that? (besides buying a new cartridge).
Is there something else wrong, that a new cartridge won't help?

Thanks again, people.

I've had similar problems with the #56 and 57 carts for my PSC 2110, but
only after refilling a cart several times. I've always suspected some
kind of floating particles, or possibly an air block in the passages
leading to the head. Each time, installing another cart took care of it.
An air block can usually (but not always) be removed with the equipment
included in an Inktec refill kit, a bracket for the cart and a syringe
to draw ink out through the head. As for the "floaters," I might have
been able to "cure" that by cleaning and flushing the cart, but I didn't
think it was worth it. I usually get enough refills out of a cart that
the cost of another is negligible.

And before you can say it, Measekite - I don't care about quality or
fading because I print mostly "junk," things not designed to be on
display for long periods, not photos for sale or something like that. If
you're going to print photos for display on a wall, get a new OEM cart.
