Is there an alternative to RunOnce entries ?

Mike

I have an application that inserts a recovery application
into RunOnce to reset "USER" settings if the application
crashes unexpectedly. Using this method, my application
appears to be a threat when running SpyWare.

Since our service runs in a NON-user context, we cannot
use that method in case the system crashes and another
user logs on.

Can someone suggest an alternative method to restoring
USER settings when an application crashes or system
crashes now that MS Spyware makes our application look
like a threat ?

thanks,
Mike

Mike - I'm not sure that you'll reach folks knowledgable in development
issues here.

I rather foolishly answered a development issue earlier this week in one of
these groups, but this one isn't susceptable to Googling.

I'd recommend that you ask this in a public newsgroup for developer issues
related to Windows.

If you need pointers, I can take a look at the hierarchy and see what I can
spot that looks likely to be helpful. It'd be useful to know if you need or
prefer HTML versus NNTP, and what language you are using.

The other answer might be what's necessary to get your application listed as
"known" and get a green popup, rather than the blue one. (I assume you
aren't getting a red one or you'd have asked about how to fix that!)

Presently, the contact point for getting an app listed as "known" is the
vendor dispute form at www.spynet.com:

http://www.spynet.com/vendors.aspx

The primary purpose of this form is to begin the dispute process for apps
which are listed for removal by Microsoft Antispyware, and whose vendors
dispute the listing or the description.

However, during the beta so far, at least, this is also the correct place to
begin the process of getting your app listed as a "known spyware free"
(gotta get them to put a dash in the right place in that phrase!)
application.
