Pop-ups may mean that there's spyware or adware on your computer. For that
try
Ad-aware from http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/
Spybot from http://security.kolla.de/
More information at http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Many pop-ups can be stopped by a hosts file
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
or with a program such as Pop-Up Stopper- free version from
http://www.panicware.com/popupstopper.html
There are many free pop-up stoppers. Check
www.nonags.com
www.pricelessware.org
www.tucows.com
www.download.com

Hope this helps,
Don

Trying to wipe out IE by whatever means over popups would really be a baby
with a bath situation and hardly be targeting the cause. It'd be like
nuking your boat because somebody spilled a drink on the deck. Lots of
suggestions for good pop up stoppers and just want to add that the Google
Toolbar has an option for a pretty effective pop up stopper,

toolbar.google.com and Panic Ware here http://www.panicware.com/
has a pretty effective pop up stopper as do most of the pre-emptive kick
'em out at the rope line before they get in the club spyware guards like
Spychecker, Spyware Blaster, ect. for free and you can google for them.

Harold--

Info first post made it difficult to tell what you wanted to do (not sure
you were ref. IE or popups) now I know. First before I considered
repairing or uninstalling IE6--I'd reach for System File Checker and run
it--but as with 85-90% of IE help posts, you haven't said what OS you're
using--it can matter. If you have SFC I'd put the XP CD in, and into the
run box I'd put "sfc /purgecache" and "sfc /scannow." Windows File
Protection started in some form in Windows 98 SE and it scans the dllcache
folder and the XP CD for damamged file dlls and replaces them, often
repairing significant problems with IE and Win XP. This is an easy 30
minute move you can make with little if any downside to repair. If this
doesn't work, then there are moves to make--a large number to repair or
uninstall IE. Before I undertook any of these, though I'd see if System
Restore to a restore point before the problem would help you. Here are some
