Is there a way to get Office updates on CD-ROM?

I only have a dial-up connection, and there are 47MB of updates. I could
download it with a friend's fast connection and burn a CD-ROM, but I can't
figure out how to get a stand-alone update. Aren't there any reasonable
options for dial-up users?

I recommend that you register you wish with Microsoft and explain that there are
many people who are still on dial-up.

Contact Microsoft: Use MSWish to request features, report problems, etc.

It's possible that you can request a CD from Microsoft, but I'm not sure of how
long it would take to get or whether there would be a charge. In your case
having a cooperative friend would be the best solution.

Help, Check for updates will tell you what updates MS thinks you need. It
might be a bit tedious, but bearable even at dialup speeds.

Get a printout or detailed list of the stuff they suggest.

Then amble over to your fast-surfing friend's house and:

Go to http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdate/default.aspx

Look for the "Browse Downloads" heading and click "Downloads for Office 2003"
underneath it

On the Downloads page that appears, click Updates under Office 2003

For each update you've decided you want, click its name on the list; that takes
you to a page that includes plain old download link.

You might also want to do a File, Save As and save the page as an MHT file so
you've got the instrux along with the downloaded file.

In the case of Office SP1, there are two different downloads; one of them will
require you to have your original Office CD handy when you install it. The
other will *probably* not require the CD (though it may in some cases).

This comes up often enough and has annoyed me a couple times in the past too.
So it's now part of the FAQ:

How can I get Office 2003 updates and service packs as files, not over-the-web
installations?
