Is there a way of tidying up Calendar?

I would like to be able to remove all the appointments
from date to date (for example 1st jan xx to 31 dec xx)
and archive them in a separate calendar file.

You could try using the Archive function (on the File menu) or the
AutoArchive function for this. For a very specific date range like the one
you want to use, though, you may need to move the data manually. Switch to
an unfiltered table view of your Calendar folder, sort by date, select all
the items, and drag them to another .PST file (you'd need to create one
first using File | New, or open an existing .PST using File | Open). Note
that if you move recurring items, all instances of those items will be
moved, including future ones. You'd need to drag individual occurrences
from Day/Week/Month view instead.

There may also be some 3rd party utilities out there that could automate the
process for you using a specific date range...check www.slipstick.com and
search for "housekeeping".

As you suggested, I created a new .pst file (and called
it Calendar2) but was unable to select all the items in
the Calendar to transfer them. It would only select
independent appointments.

But it is OK, I managed to do what I had to, differently:
I saved my Outlook.pst and transferred my 10 years agenda
from Psion to Outlook, transferred them from Outlook to
my new Handheld (UX-50) and restored the Outlook.pst file
saved so that the 10 years calendar would not be kept. I
also deleted the .pst (Calendar) file created

Thank you for your help.
