Is there a way of opening ODT files with Word?

I receive ODT files from time to time. I believe these are files compiled
using open source programs, is there a way these files can be converted/read
by Word?
Thanks!

Word cannot handle .odt files correctly -- it doesn't have a converter that
allows them to be properly opened.

Since Open Office is free, however, you can download it and install it. Once
done, you can either open the .odt files with Open Office--and work with
them there--or you can immediately save the file(s) in Word format so they
can be opened by Word.
