Is there a VirtMachine beside VmWare that allows running Linux as guest?

Is there a VirtMachine product (but not VmWare) which allows me to run Linux guest on a WinXP host system?
VirtualPC allows only Windows as guest.

So any other VM products?

I've used this and it works

http://bochs.sourceforge.net/getcurrent.html

The only problem I had was that there was a performance hit on the guest
OS...
but I used it quite a while back.

The latest version claims to have been improved
(but I have not used it to verify)

Meg,

This is not exactly an answer to your question. But are you aware that
you can run some versions of Linux "live" from a CD without any installation
on your windows system?

I sometimes use Linux Ubuntu Hearty Heron version 8.04 from a CD on my
Windows XP machine. It runs slower than if it were installed, but it does run
with no installation.

Also, Acrontis True Image allows you to run programs in a "sand box"
under some conditions. I've never used it, but you may want to check it out.

I agree with Thee Chicago Wolf. You could take a look at their forums:

I was able to adapt the mercifully brief help at OLPC to get Linuxes
virtualized:

Note that you can use VmWare .vmdk's as well as VirtualBox native .vdi's.
After downloading the .msi from Sun and installing VirtualBox, view the Help
file.
You can mount your Linux .iso's as installation CDs in Virtual Box, then mount
VirtualBox's guest extentions .iso as a CD to get them. The Help file explains
it.

Sun bought German-developed innotek VirtualBox® nine months ago.
It is partly open source;. its proprietary extensions are free for non-business
use.

Hi Meg,

I am running Ubuntu 'Hardy' (8.04 I think) under Microsoft's
VirtualPC 2007[sp1] with no problems. The LinuxVMAdditions
was a pain to install, but now that they are installed, the
VM runs fine.
