Is there a tool that will show differences between various copies of the
registry?

Just wondering,

It would be nice to save the registry, and then undertake some activity that
would make changes to the registry (like say, loading a new program). Then,
once the registry is changed, it could be compared to the backup copy and
that way one could easily see what changes the loading made.

Is this a good idea? Does such a tool exist? Any thoughts?

Anyone?

Hi

Search for InCtrl5 here:
http://www.xpefiles.com

It will make an snapshot of registry and files before you do an installation,
and will report the differences after the install.

Microsoft has a tool that records changes made during a software install:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/techinfo/reskit/tools/existing/instaler-o.
asp

PCmagazine had something similar called InCtrl5 - I think that their utilities
are no longer available for free download, though.

There is also another tool called Keytimes which dumps the registry keys and
modification times - you can then search this for recent times to detect
changes. http://barnyard.syr.edu/~vefatica

I have used RegShot with great success. Takes a before and after
snapshot and then compares the two showing the difference(s).
