I am having a problem with Norton System Works 2004, just installed - takes
almost 90 seconds from the time the desktop appears until the time I can run
an application - and I am looking for a Symantec newsgroup where I can look
for some answers.
Thanks,
Dave

Thanks, Tom.
I had already found their web site.
I was actually looking for newsgroups similar to this one, where I could
research my problem with others who might have had it.
As closely as I have looked, I can not find a newsgroup link or reference on
any of their support pages.
I wonder if I am just not seeing it, or if their isn't one.
Thanks,
Dave

Symantec technical support includes a public forum where users correspond
with Symantec techs. All questions and answers are posted, and you can
easily search through them to see if anyone else had the same problem you
have, and what the response was.

To locate a newsgroup on any topic, if one exists, look here:
http://groups.google.com/.

Symantec used to have actual newsgroups and replied to tech support issues
in those groups but they abandoned them years ago. I believe some news
servers may still carry them and they may be posts from individuals but no
presence from Symantec. Then they switched over to online "ask a tech"
discussion forums..those lasted a year or so at most before Symantec
abandoned those too I think due to too many hostile posts and complaints of
canned answers and long waits even for "canned answers" that typically never
resolved the user's problems. Now the only "free support" is basically
online FAQ's that finally direct you to a web based email form.

- BUT - if you want to actually speak to a "support technician" it will
run you $29 (USD) per incident. BTW it is likely your "trained support
representative" will be in India and neither he/she or you will be able to
actually communicate effectively.

This is the way of all so-called "support" these days..farm it out to India
for pennies a day per person and who cares if anyone can understand each
other.

If you find anything out let me know.
Symantec has had major issues with support and quality.
They have no focused on software acquisition.

Like you I installed Personal Firewall. Now my system which booted in 7
seconds from sign in takes OVER 3 MINUTES. This is pittiful.
I suspect I will return all 3 programs to Best Buy.
It is a same that reviewers of these programs don't exist in the real
world.

Best Buy will take back opened software???

Update:

As usualy Symantec products fail to uninstall components of other
installed Symantec products. As a result either registry entries or
Symevent, or Liveupdate files (probably a combination of all 3) caused
the new programs to malfunction.

I called paid Symantec Support with the problem and ultimately ran 3
files from the Symantec support Website to remove all traces of Symantec
Products (NAV, System Works, and NIS).

Now all is well. There was no charge.

It only took 4 extra hours.

Where to you want to go today?
Anywhere, but stay in front of this *____ computer!!!
