Is there a reason.....

that the functionality of both outlook and outlook express are so distinct.
There seem to be loads of little bits of both packages I want to use, but
they are in one package and not the other.....

For example, lack of 'send as' on Outlook, lack of news group support....

The only thing that I have to use Outlook for is the calendar aspect when
synching with my palm, all the other aspects of Express are much better
though.

why, why, why.........?!

Depending on what version of Outlook you are using, you can get the ability
to send using different accounts.

* Outlook 98/2000 configured in Internet Mail Only mode allow targetting a
specific account
* Outlook 2002/2003 allow you to specify the sending account

Newsgroup support is not in any version of Microsoft Outlook. Probably will
not be there since Microsoft Outlook is the premiere client for a Microsoft
Exchange server. Exchange can be configured to funnel newsgroups into
public folders.
