In alt.comp.freeware, on 20 Dec 2003, Paul Johnson announced:
I am looking for a program that will notify me if there has
been a change in my storage space in a website, to save me
constantly checking it. I came across a commercial program
in my search but no freeware. Does anyone know of a
program? Paul
Hi Paul,
As John said, Webmon does that. It is an excellent program and
after trying everything else I could find, it is the one I have
stuck with:
http://www.btinternet.com/~markwell/webmon
Just to give you an alternative as the choice between programs is
very often down to personal taste, another one is C4U, which does
have some nice features but is unfortunately not being maintained
anymore. I found this site which has details on it including a
download link:
http://www.mindspring.com/~davleib/todays.html
and this one has some reviews:
http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue29/c4u/
Unfortunately the homepage:
http://www.c-4-u.com no longer exists
so I guess that confirms that it's gone...
I've got another program called 'Check4New', the current version
1.8 is spyware. I talked to the author a couple of years ago and
he was working on a new version 2 which was going to be proper
freeware without the spyware, but since then he has had a
computer crash and lost all his code. He was apparently
rewriting it from scratch but so far I haven't seen anything from
him.
I think pre 1.6 versions of the program didn't have the ads, but
I really can't remember, maybe someone else can confirm this for
me
I saw another program one time, I can't remember it's name
though, but from memory, it wasn't any smaller than the others
and didn't do as much so probably no great loss
