Greetings all,
I need a standalone, freeware , of course, preferably "greenware" ( no need
for full installation, ) player for Quicktime Movies ( *.mov)

I need this to play some QT movies on different machines ( mostly W98) on
which I am not allowed to install Software. .

I 've spent about 3 hours looking around, but I'm where I started.....still

No chance without the massive bulk that are the QT codecs.

Hi:

I am not sure about playing QT movies without the proper codec (COmpress
DECompressor)s. You might be able to find a program that supports playing
movies with the installed Codecs, but you'd need to have some kind of QT
Codecs installed.

If you don't want to install teh Bloated QT Player, and can install anothjer
un-bloated app check out quicktime alternitive (link somewhere down in theis
page: http://home.hccnet.nl/h.edskes/mirror.htm).

Unfortunatly you will have to install this app.

Good Luck.

(another option may be to try and find a convertor app to convert qt movies
to a windows format that is already installed like avi with a compression of
div-x, mpeg2, mpeg4, cinepack, etc.

Good Luck

A correction CODEC means enCOder - DECoder.

Can you convert a QT file without the QT codecs being installed?

No.
What you can do is:
-install Quicktime
-uninstall Quicktime
-use Irfanview with the Quicktime plugin. Irfanview does not require
installation.
This method has worked for me, even though I now use Quicktime Alternative.

How About Video Lan Client www.videolan.org ?
grab the zipped version extract it and burn the folder to a
disc and use that. Alternatively grab the EXE installer and
install to your pc and burn that folder to a disc. supports
many formats including the Sorenson codec that Quicktime is
or uses.
