I now have dsl broadband -yippee! I know that I can use my analog modem to
receive faxes and use it as an answering machine, with the right software,
but what I really want, is caller ID.
I've tried one proggy mentioned here (Caller ID Box) and looked at a few
others mentioned, but they all seem to rely on tapi compliant modems. I have
tried researching on modemhelp.com and looked through every NG with the word
"modem" in it, but I can't find out if it is possible with *my* modem. I
suspect, from what I've read so far, that I don't have the right hardware,
and I know that strictly speaking, this query belongs in a harware forum of
some sort, but there are many technically savvy people here, and at least I
know most of you.
The modem has a Rockwell/Connexant chipset (Rockwell FM-56SA-SCM V.90 Voice
Speakerphone Modem).
Can anyone advise please? I would also appreciate advice on the simplest,
least bloated fax answer machine software, as I have commercial software
which came with with the modem, but it is far too complicated for a home
standalone pc.
