I am looking for a icon to place in my toolbar ? (lower lefthand corner)
that when clicked will take me to my desktop even when I may have several
layers of programs or web pages open. Is it possible?

Thanks,

Craig

Right-click on your Taskbar and select:
Toolbars > Quick Launch
The "Show Desktop" icon will appear on the left
side of the Taskbar.

You need to have the QuickLaunch toolbar displayed in the task bar. It
has a shortcut to "Show Desktop" which will toggle between minimizing
all windows and restoring them. If it is missing, go to:

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

and download the .exe file on the right-side of line 61. Or go read:

Does the "WindowsKey-D" key work as you want for this?

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Alternate Plan B: If you are a keyboard user, the Winkey (the one having
the Windows logo) together with either letters D or M do the same thing.
There is also "Show Desktop" in pop-up menu with a right-click in a blank
area of Taskbar. Quick Launch is nice but it does take room on Taskbar;
your choice...

A quick comment here: the Quick Launch bar does *not* necessarily
take room on the taskbar. Like other toolbars which reside on the
taskbar by default, it can be dragged off the taskbar and placed
on any side of the desktop you prefer (make sure the taskbar is
unlocked first).

One configuration that I like is the takbar at the bottom of the
screen and the Quick Launch bar vertically at the left.
Particularly if you have a large screen running at a high
resolution, this can take very little desktop real estate, while
allowing lots of room for Quick Launch icons.

Good point Ken, that's why "you da man" ;-)

No argument with MGGP :) Never knew QL could be taken OFF the Taskbar,
surprise, surprise. A person gets MVP status the old-fashioned way; they
EARN it...

Yes it is, not quite sure where to obtain it though. In the meanwhile
try this. Hold down the Microsoft start key on your keyboard and press
the D key. This will take you to your desktop.
