Hi,

I'm trying to figure out if my zalman CPU fan and extra case fan are
cooling enough that I can take off the mobo chipset fan.

I can't seem to find out what the motherboard temp is though.

Is there a utility somewhere that will help?

Thanks,

-Deb

Asus PC Probe is included on the Asus mobo CD, or download a newer
version, from their WWW or FTP.
ftp://[email protected]/pub/ASUS/misc/utils/probe22204.zip

Motherboard Monitor 5,
http://mbm.livewiredev.com/

Don't think any of them tell you the chipset temp but they will tell you
the CPU, mobo/case temps.

I still wonder where the mobo sensor actualy is : /

I think the user would need a external sensor to test this. I would say to
just take it off and see what happens ;)

MBM5 says its the "AS99127F" chip, probably near the bottom of the board
somewhere is my guess.

Ta, I hadnt thought of that.

Downloaded the 2.22.05 PCProbe. For P4P800 and P4 3.0 G Intel.
It tell me the fan is spinning at approx. 18000 with CPU on 40 C. I doubt
that.
AIDA32 tells me the CPU is at 36 C and the fan is running at 1000 rpm.

Well, at least the fan is running and the temp in low. That counts.
But reliable measurements ?????

Well, I think these measurements would be reliable in relation to
themselves, like you say - "at least the fan is running and the temp is
low."
18000 Rpm would be extremely fast for the fan and 1000 rpm -rather slow,
but fans reported speed can need multiplied by a correcting factor to give
the real speed.

Some say MBM is the way to go, but Asus Probe is certainly the safest and
likely gives the best readings since its custom made by asus -for asus.
If MBM gets wrong readings -its par for the course, but if Probe is giving
weird readings, you know something is very likely ski-whiff ;]

I got a digital thermometer to read this, with little black sensor on the
end of a wire, it can dangle in the case or sit on top of the hard drive
(or anywhere really) -its dead handy and only cost a couple of quid :]
