Hello all,

I just installed windows vista and it is using over 14 gig just for just the
operating system. I have a folder called WINNT and also Windows. Is vista
using the WINNT folder? It looks like all of my old patches and files are in
WINNT. How can I make this folder smaller (what files are save to delete?)

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

By default, Vista uses \Windows. The WinNT folder is likely your original
system folder before upgrading. To determine for sure, click start and type
%windir% and hit <enter>. Windows Explorer should open to the Windows system
directory. You can cherry pick files from the other and then delete it to
recover space.

My system folder is windows. However, when I try to delete the entire folder
(Winnt) it tries for a few minutes and then gives me an access is denied
message. How can I delete the entire folder to get back this 5 gigs?

Hi,

Take ownership of it. Right click it and select properties. Go to the
security tab and click advanced. On the ownership tab, click edit and change
the owner account to your own. Apply/ok your way out, then you can delete
it.
