Is the sound recorder supported by XP home edition?

In my XP media center edition on my Dell desktop the sound
recorder is available through Start > Programs > Accessories
Entertainment but this folder is empty on my XP home
edition Compaq notebook.

The file Sndrec32.exe is on the notebook though, in the
System32 sub directory. But the volume control program,
Sndvol32.exe, is missing. I copied the volume file over to
the notebook and it seems to be working okay.

Did Compaq fail to give me a complete system, or is the
sound recorder just not supported by the home edition? I
thought that the sound recorder was available on all the
windows versions. I know I had it on 98 and I believe I had
it on 95. I can't find any mention of sound recorder in the
index of my reference WP book.

Likely a mistake on your system or Compaq's installation.
