I use the NT Backup program regularly to a folder on the second hard drive
on my wife's computer. I only backup system settings and My Documents. I
place all downloaded software in the My Documents folder. QuickBooks stores
information in a folder in My Documents rather than the Intuit default
location. All of my 15 web sites are also in My Documents. I consider these
to be ALL necessary files. I keep all installation CDs for programs that may
need to be re-installed. Three times I have had to restore selected files.
It was easy and worked perfectly.
It's adequate. It can be used for a complete system backup but you MUST be
sure to include system state. In order to completely restore a system (e.g.
after a hard drive failure) a minimal reinstallation of Windows must be done
first in order to run the ntbackup restore. Imaging programs like Ghost
or Acronis can do such a restore by booting from their CD which is somewhat
faster and simpler.
