Is the next speaker thing 8,1 speakers ?

We Live for the One we Die for the One

I think 8.1 would be good, you get the rear center channel and then
you could have true surround sound, i just upgraded my 2.1s to 5.1,
did not want or need 6.1 or 7.1 well i dont htink so :)

Any thoughts ?
 
8.1 would likely be a marketing gimmick rather than an improvement. The two
rear speakers can accurately position the sound coming from the rear center
area - well enough that one cannot tell the difference between the stereo
pair and an added, rear center surround.

Out of all the groups you crossposted to you didn't manage to include one
single hifi group, which is really where the question should have gone.

and when they come out with 12, 1 ; I'd have to move into a bigger
room to accommodate all those speakers!!!

Maybe a room with tiled walls, ceilings and floors, except the tiles are
flat panel speakers?

Maybe 5.1 is enough?

I am guessing the next thing is a room that is a speaker. So you kind of
have all of your computer hardware in the middle of it. Back to 1.1...if you
think about it.

Well 5.1 sounds perfect with my two ears, couldn't tell the difference
with 6.1. But then I suppose it is really up to how many ears the
listener thinks they have. *8)

Bah!! Two speakers are perfectly adeqaute .... sour grapes 'cause I can't
get a 5.1/6.1 setup in the room where the PC is :o(

exactly ! ???

i have the logitech z680's 5.1 THX. I can't think of any reason to go
over/up/down/further/backwards/around to/give up THX.

I have also two 2.1 THX's connected together. the rear gets a sub-woofer
and two speakers and the front get a sub-woofer and two speakers. Whats that
? 4.2 ? sure IS and it sounds great !

Then again electro static speakers have the wider frequency response and
faster at the cross overs ya.

so what do you need ? heck sounds like you have it.

imho as my DOG pointed out to me by sitting down in the middle of my
volumetric location for optimal sound reproduction and started
watching/listening the plane come in at the start of my DVD "attack of the
Clones" THX is a way of LIFE dude !!!!! She NOW likes to lay in the room
(since i've upgraded to THX)when I am playings DVD concerts and cd's (128
bit rip to MP3's) THX rules !

so uh, maybe you could go THX

oh yeah, and then get a dog.
