Is the main difference between the Dimage Dual IV and the costlier units the Digital Ice?

I had heard that Digital Ice adds around $200 to the cost of a scanner
due to being hardware-based and licensing fees?

Is the unbelieveably-priced Dual IV as good as the others otherwise?

Some people claim that there's a woman to blame, but I think it's all...

Richard's fault!

The Microtech i320 has Digital ICE, only costs about $130. I'm thinking of
buying it.

That, apart from ICE is the only differences I know of. OTOH, if you
have lots of images ICE is essential. But, if your images are mainly
B&W and Kodachrome then it's not as ICE won't work with B&W and won't
work very well, or not at all, with Kodachrome.

Be aware that there are two very different kinds of Digital ICE.

One type removes dust/scratches on images of film scanned with a scanner
equipped with the fourth infrared channel (Red, Green, Blue, Infrared).

One type removes tears/cracks on images of damaged prints (not film) scanned
with a scanner equipped with two sets of lamps in two directions causing
shadows of the imperfection.

These are very different goals, different ICE software, different scanner
hardware. The two have nothing in common but the name.
