Is Textpad shareware or freeware?

I've been under the impression that Textpad is shareware
and not freeware, and that it has a "trial period".
Is this true?
What happens after the trial period is over? Does it stop working or
does it just nag you?

Now-a-days (last 30days), is all but DEAD.
There's nothing there but spam & junk posts.
