Ditto. If you use a product which goes for cookies, you'll see new
detections regularly. Otherwise, if you aren't too adventurous, you won't
get too much excitement.
Is spyware rare? Surely, you jest. It's becoming more
prevalent all the time. Underground sites (cracks, porno,
etc.) many fan sites and other popular sites are nothing
but spyware conveyor belts. I have to use 4 anti-spyware
programs at least once a week to keep my hard drive clean.
I think the biggest problem is a lot of legitimate sites
are too cheap to do regular scans to keep their servers
free of spyware. Spyware purveyors dump their crap on
these servers, knowing it will likely remain undiscovered.
