Is RC1 out?

No, it doesn't say that RC1 is out. The article is provided by an
individual and subject to corrections and clarifications, as are all
Wikipedia articles. Please note the "+/-" after the date given. That means
"more or less." In other words, someone's estimate. Obviously it fell
short. If you follow the links it takes you to the Vista Team Blog which
only says, "And before anyone asks the question, yes, you can expect us to
deliver RC1 later this quarter :)"

The quarter ends on Sept. 30.

Wikipedia is a great concept, I use it all the time as a reference.
However, one must be careful because of the way wiki is setup
and the very nature of people to lie, embellish, exaggerate, or just
plain get things wrong.

RC1 will be for all tester or reserved to technet msdn etc?

cause my 5384 release is not good...

RC1 is suppost to be for everyone that registered Beta 2 as well as TAP,
beta testers, TechNet Plus and MSDN.

It's said to be for people who registered on the CPP and MSDN members. No
idea about CTP members.

Over at wikipedia.org http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Vista it says
that
build 5487 RC1 was release August 2nd. Would any msdn members, who have
5487,
let us know their opinion?

5487 is not on MSDN, and it's not RC1 as far as I am aware. It may say
RC1 on the desktop, but that means nothing, my build 5472 says Beta 2, and
it's not Beta 2. All it means, is they are working TOWARDS RC1..

One of the most frequent blocks on individual posting on Wikipeida, which is
a remarkably good resource (enhanced by organizational hyperlinks, for
general info (a cut above a lot of references of that type) are on the lying
staffs of United States Congressmen and Senators who have taken great
liberties embellishing their own biographies and trashing their opponents.

It's good for contexting the history of a particular computer area for
example. It's pretty good for biographies and accurate there (except when
the US Congress gets involved).

I wish this were around on something you could carry with you easily when I
was in school.

I believe the correct information on this subject (I don't know what
Wikipedia says about it but it's not a bad article on Vista) and I don't see
any precise info here on the subject the OP used to start the thread
thread, is that Build 5487 has been released to TAP testers, but not to TBTs
on Connect yet. (No, I don't have a TAP agreement).

Microsoft has released another build to TAP. The Build is 5487 and the exact
build string is Build 5487.winmain.060726-1810.Some Details about this build
are as follows :-
vista_5487.0.060726-1810_winmain_x86fre_client-LB2CFRE_EN_DVD.iso (2,690.42
MB)

RC1 will be a Milestone build. Milestone builds get full distribution to
all the testing and evaluation populations. I suspect that RC1 may be made
available to an even wider audience than Beta 2 5384 was.

For Chad: Be sure to enter the RC1 drawing. First prize will be a free
copy of Vista gold. Second prize will be two. ;)

5472 is still beta 2. It is an External Developer Workstation build, an
interim build (interim as in between the first beta 2 build and the first
RC1 build).

The date for 5487 may have been removed from the Wikipedia page--(MSFT gets
a real tight sphincter on that information being released). I guess
because they know they have never been as secretive as Jobs and Apple, and
have Mac Jobs envy and maybe another type of envy that has become a
household word.

Since they are becoming less and less transparent and more secretive and
disseminating information about a year later than they should on Vista,
maybe MSFT has little elves from Nancy Anderson's office (Deputy General
Counsel) forcing people to take references down--the way they made Chris
Perillo take his torrent page down when all he was doing was facilitating
download speed with Beta 2.

What hasn't happened is that the TAP testers who installed 5487 on their
boxes on August 2 have not removed it, nor have they opted out of this phase
of the TAP program. The one I was with today hasn't--he's having a good time
testing.

Why are they busting their ass to keep when these builds drop a secret?
They never succeed and frankly, who gives a shit whether people know which
acronym has the build. Why the house mommy warning people "boy if you let
the unwashed pheasants know all you Beta babies who are whining are getting
another build tonite, I'll whack you off the Beta and you'll never ever see
the light of a Beta.?" The same people that post are also invited to Redmond
to interview all the time.

One more sign of the times: hypocrisy breeding hypocrisy like bunnies in
heat.

And what would be the current media that is not subject to such foibles?

Wiki is a great learning tool. You have the web to check any facts. Many
of your US Senators and Representatives were caught embellishing facts in
their biographies and removing perjorative facts in their biographies.
Excellent point Bernie--media spin is alive and well.

Media stupidity is vibrant and thriving also. I watched Paula Zahn say
that there was serious consideration that the Biblical end of the world was
now here, and she was going to turn to the CNN Faith Advisor to "get the
facts" and check on this.

Perhaps the CNN Fiath Advisor climbed to the top of the CNN Building at the
tip of Central Park and was speaking to a higher power the way the
delusional Bush moron says he does?

Build 5487 is Not Available on MSDN (I checked earlier today), and is most
likely just another one of those Nightly Dogfood Build's that only Microsoft
Employee's and select TAP Tester's will get to test, Just FYI.

I doubt it because I saw a build 5490 desktop in a TechNet webcast several
weeks ago. I isn't a nightly build. It might be an EDW build.

Kevin--

I said it had been released to Tap on Wednesday August 2, 2006 in a post on
