Is Product Activation Required on a new Dell System? The Word Program
popped up saying I was down to 49 uses before some features were to be
turned off ... But the "SIMPLE as 1-2-3" stuff kept going in a loop & I
never did find the "Wizard". And, I looked all over the internet last night
.... lots of topics about Why ... But I never could figure out if all this
had already been done for my Dell "Factory Loaded" Microsoft Programs when
it shipped to me a little over a month ago.

Greetings --

Pre-installed OEM operating systems are typically either
pre-activated at the factory or are BIOS-locked and do not required
activation as long as they're installed on the computer with which
they're sold.

Office XP's activation requirements are different, though. If
your installation is somehow damaged or corrupted in such a manner
that you cannot activate it, you should contact Dell for technical
support.

Sounds like it needs to be activated. Have you tried to activate the Office
portion of the installation? Does it not activate?

The machine came with Office XP?
That is what needs to be activated.

Establish an online connection. Then open one of your Office programs. If
the screen about activation does not offer an option to go ahead and
activate, click on Help> in the program's menu bar. If available, select
Activate Product from that menu. Or click on the About... option and look
for an Activate button on the product info screen.
