is outlook right for me?

Christi

I am a Domestic Diva (SAHM), have a very hectic schedule, and am looking to
get our lives and home organized. I remember having Outlook when I was
working outside of the home and LOVED the functionality of MailMerge and the
Calendar & it's options. Is Outlook right for me if I only want to use it
for an address book, email, and the calendar in our home (childrens schedule,
husbands schedule, appointments, activities, etc...), or is there another
program that would be better suited for me?

OneNote is not a solution for us as it does not have an email capabliity, a
calendar, or contact options that I have found. Please correct me if I am
wrong or suggest Outlook/another program that may be better suited for us.

Thunderbird has add ons for a calendar and tasks. It also has an
excellent junk filter and real time spell checking. Best of all, it's
free. Check it out at http://www.mozilla.com/thunderbird

Many people find Google and Yahoo fill those functions well also. No mail
merge, though, as far as I know. If mail merge is a requirement for you,
Outlook is a string contender.

The question to ask is 'do you need to features outlook offers?'

Since you are familiar with outlook from work, then its certainly a good
option for you, with little to no learning curve. Windows Live Mail client
supports calendar and tasks - and google's calendar is also nice. Neither do
mail merge. If you are mail merging snail mail, its not a problem as word
can use a text file as the data source but you will need outlook for email
merges.
