Is Office XP not compatible with Vista?

Every time I try to open it, it tells me that there was a major change and I
have to insert the CD to reactivate. It goes through the motions of
installing something, but the next time I open Excel, or Word, or Publisher,
I have to go through the same thing.

Any ideas?

It's getting mixed reviews. Have you tried removing it completely and
re-installing it?

Office XP has always been a load of crap. It did the same sort of thing with
XP Pro. You would try to open Excel and it would want me to run the CD to
install Fontpage!
Office 2003 Pro runs like a dream in Viasta Home Premium.

Well, the saga gets worse. I got tired of always having to insert the CD so
I tried uninstalling. Kept getting errors that I needed permission on
certain files. Well after about 2 hours of that, I finally got it
uninstalled (or at least I thought I did) and rebooted my computer and
inserted the CD, clicked on Setup and it looked like it was installing. So,
when it was done, I clicked on Excel and got the following error message:
"Windows cannot access the specific device, path or file. You may not have
the appropriate permissions to access the item." What in the heck is that
supposed to mean? I'm the administrator and the only user of this darned
thing.

Any other ideas?

Thanks

I'm afraid this doesn’t look good. I read through I couple issues where
people went around and around with this and the ultimate solution was the
complete removal of Office XP.

Yep, that is what I had to do, but I had to do it in bits and pieces. What a
horror story. It took me 4-1/2 hours to finally get it all cleaned up.
Here's what I had to do to get Office XP reinsatlled:

Uninstall Office XP through Uninstall Programs. Kept hanging on files
saying I needed permission. Had to find the file, give myself permission,
then go back and try again to uninstall. This took at least two hours.

Ok, finally got it uninstalled. Inserted CD and started to install, almost
the same problem. Error message about "permission". Again, had to go find
the files and actually delete them. Try the install again and again with the
same problem. Finally after 2-1/2 hours of reinserting the CD, typing the
Product Key and starting the install, I finally got it to work and can
finally use Office XP.

I don't wish this on anyone. Oh, and this was a brand new, working
perfectly install under XP, so the Vista Express Upgrade messed it up
somehow. Now, I hope it stays working. LOL

Interesting, there was no talk of anyone having performed a clean install or
upgrade.

I'll express that view to the other sources and see what comes of it.
