lately my computer has been taking 10-15 minutes to boot up and is extremely
slow, taking many minutes to open any program or document. Not being well
versed in computers i ran a scan on my computer and the following problems
turned up:

1: user32.dll
2: shell32.dll
3: ntoskml.exe

Is there any way that i can fix these without my recovery CD as i have
misplaced it? If so how do you do so?

Many thanks in advance for your comments and help.

What program did you use to run the scan? What were the exact
problems that were purportedly found with the files that you listed?

Those files you named are all essential core components of Windows. It
is possible that they have been corrupted by a virus, of course, but
without specifics it is impossible to say much more.

What are the basic specs of your computer - CPU (processor) type and
speed? How much RAM? How big is the hard drive and how much free
space is left on it?

What antivirus and antispyware software do you have installed? Is it
up to date?

Good luck

I used AVG to run the scan as i had suspected a virus. That is how i found
thoose three files. The status on AVG showed that they needed to be changed.
This happens every time i run AVG. I also use PC tools spyware doctor and
they are all up to date. The specs for the computer are as follows:

1.60 gigahertz Intel Pentium M
64 kilobyte primary memory cache
2048 kilobyte secondary memory cache
40.00 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity
28.01 Gigabytes Hard Drive Free Space
Spyware Doctor with AntiVirus Version Spyware Doctor with AntiVirus
AVG 7.5.467 Version 7.5.467

512 Megabytes Installed Memory

Slot 'M1' has 256 MB
Slot 'M2' has 256 MB

All microsoft updates have been installed as of 10th May 2007.

Those files are core Windows System Files that are rewritten by the
operating system each time Windows is run and therefore the file
creation date (and perhaps the file checksum) will be changed.

The memo notation on the AVG test results is just acknowledging that
these files have been changed in some way since the last time AVG was
run, and is not a cause for concern. These specific files will always
show that way on the test summary each and every time AVG is run.

If there was a virus infection in the file then you would get the full
"red screen" AVG virus detected advisory.

Based on what you have said you can safely ignore this specific issue
with regards to these 3 specific files.

Good luck
