Is my pc being spied upon?

I run several programs, such as DirMS-S Degragmentation Utility, that require
a connection to the internet. Does that mean that the info in my pc is being
spied upon, monitored, etc, when I run the programs?

DirMS is a defragger. I can understand that it needs to be connected to the
internet in order to determine if it needs an update but I can't disconnect
from the internet until the program finishes running. It doesn't have the
capability to determine whether another program needs an update. A few other
programs have to be connected to the internet until they finish processing
but DirMS is the only one that has access to everything in my pc in order to
defrag it.

Ditch them (unless they are specifically for doing something actively on the
Internet.)

Are you being spied upon? Probably - but not likely in a malicious manner.
Technically - you are being spied on when ever you do anything on the
internet.. Just not necessarily actively by a human being.

Simple example..

Visit http://whatismyip.com/ and verify that I have your computer's IP
correct:
71.235.109.247

Is that Comcast Cable Communications? Connecticut?

Yes, that's me . . . I didn't know that I was so visible!

I couldn't see how you found out my isp and state though, as that info
didn't show up on the page that opened.

Thanks for the awareness lesson and I'll be ditching the programs that need
constant connection to the internet while running.
