Hi,

I defined a domain 'test.be' on a win2000 server DC. The DNS window mentions
'test.be' as domain in the forward looking zone.

But when i look in the event security log, i see:
user: TEST\username

Besides, when logging from old win95 computers, the domain filled must be
'test' and not 'test.be', because otherwise, i get: "no domain server was
available to validate your password".

So, is it 'test' or 'test.be'?

Suppose there is a second domain on another DC in the same LAN with the name
'test.us'. How will old win95 make the difference between 'test.be' and
'test.us'?

Thanks
andré

Test is the netbios name of the domain. Test.be is the AD name of the domain. Depending on what OS the client is running, either is valid.

Thank you,

This would cause a name conflict, just as you cannot have to nodes on a
network with the same IP address you cannot have two nodes with the same
NetBIOS name. You would be better to have the same NetBIOS and DNS name.
(Yes you can have a NetBIOS name with a "." in it)

In my case ('test.be' and 'test.us') how can i do that, in order to avoid
conflict with win95?

Thanks again

During DCPROMO you choose your NetBIOS name
