Is MS going to cave to malware companies?

I'm reading in the news that MS has taken a piece of
malware by Startpagina.nl out of its search based on the
threat of a lawsuit. What is the truth behind this? Has
MS issued a statement? Will any malware company that
threatens to sue be given free reign by MSAS?

You are misreading the news completely.

There was no malware involved.

Microsoft Antispyware mis-identifies completely innocuous web sites as
browser hijacks under some circumstances.

In the case in question, it misidentified the page you mention, which
happens to be a popular portal, competitve to MSN.

This issue had nothing to do with malware or caving to malware interests.

As Bill noted, this was not about spyware, as you can read in any of the
articles on this.

Also, there are only a few companies in the world who can even afford to try
to sue MS. The US government wasted millions of dollars trying to sue MS
over monopoly practices.

Didn't Microsoft apologize about this? Plus, I heard Microsoft makes money,
so you can't sue them for they've got!

Hmmm ? This is really something to think about. I am also glad
that MS makes money out of great products, but..........

So you mean MS is so powerful so they can do whatever they
want ?

Sounds like a James Bond movie about a media company, which
one I have forget.

I dont think DOJ and EU regulators will agree in your statement.

We will see when Longhorn goes against Final, I don´t think
MS is so powerful this time.

I didn't say MS was above the law or that they were too powerful. There is
a cost of doing business and when you want to make trouble for the big
company, you better have deep pockets because the big guy might want to see
how long you can last. IBM was sued for 10 years. On the other hand, little
companies can be considered a nuisance and may be paid to go away or bought
out if they have a needed technology.

The Feds can puff their chests all they want but what did they accomplish?
Is Windows cheaper? No
Is IE a separate application you buy and add on? No
Did any VARs prove that people actually want the other crap they put on
machines other than MS apps? No.

As far as I'm concerned, the Justice Department accomplished nothing. Just
like all the other things Janet Reno accomplished:
- busted up the paperplate monopoloy
- got coconut oil banned from popcorn
- burned Waco to the ground

Millions of my tax dollars wasted when the consumer was perfectly able to
decide for themselves and make the market change.

Well EU got € 497 million from MS so my share in euro tax is
secured ;)

Maybe this result is ridiculous about WMP and some codes but
I think regulators don´t
do the same mistake as with XP with Longhorn.

I think it will be more "standalone" applications whatever
we want.

But now we talking politic ;(

Here Here, You are definately right about Janet Reno!! She was the worst
Attorny General in recent memory along with Clinton's Secretary of State and
Surgeon General. Of course you would never know it from the liberal press.
Luckily we have talk radio and Fox News now to balance what is going on.
