Is losing video signal resulting from an overheated video card?

Can a video signal loss result from an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro AIW (128 MB)
getting too hot (overheating)? The system requires a hard reset since
the computer doesn't seem to respond (e.g., lock keys don't change light
status, no audio, etc.). It seems to happen when gaming like World of
Warcraft. Just wondering.

I doubt it is RAM because I have no problems when not gaming. I doubt it
is a CPU heat problem since I ran cpuburnk7 for over two hours nonstop
(up to 154 degrees(F) with 107 degrees(F)) motherboard temperatures).
The power supply should be OK: Antec Model SL400 (400 watts; 80mm and
92mm fans) power supply. You can see my primary computer (gaming box)

I even uninstalled and reinstalled ATI Catalyst drivers (v5.2 and v5.3).
Running 3D screen savers and ATITool for hours seem fine. Nothing odd in
Windows XP's event logs.

What sort of power supply is in your computer? Particularly the amps on
each voltage rail. If you open up the case there should be a label on
the side of the power supply that says something like 3.3v 30A, 5v 28A,
12v 18A - this is important in helping find out whats going wrong.

If your case is one where its easy to take the cover off then you could
try running without the cover on to see if it crashes as without the
cover things run a bit cooler and this could maybe point towards it
being a heat problem.

Ah right - I see from this page what amps are on each rail - so should
be ok I think: (18A on the 12, 38 on the 5)

Also try turning off fastwrites and VPU Recover in the catalyst drivers

I already had Fast Write disabled, but not VPU Recover. I will try that.
I never saw VPU Recover say anything and let me send an error report.
