is it worth it to fix my old HP 4M printer?

My venerable HP 4M has suddenly developed a problem. When I turn it on
there is a rattling noise that was never present before from the back, then
the noise stops. The printer boots normally then, but each time I try to
print there is a paper jam. Clear paper jam. Repeat.

I have a brand new print cartridge, and I'd prefer to fix the printer if it
were reasonable.

Does anyone have any advice as the (a) whether I should fix this dinosaur
and (b) where I might go to get it done if that's the responsible thing to
do?

Thanks
JH

Buy a used HP 4M for about $50 (ebay) and you can use your toner and
you have spare-parts

This is one of the best printers ever made, from the standpoint of
cost and reliability. Plus, you have the 4M, not the 4, which means
you have PostScript, which is genuine Adobe. It is worth repairing,
depending on the cost of the repair.

As a comparison, look on eBay for the same printer and compare what it
would cost you to get a replacement vs the cost of repair. Also check
the 4M+, which is a later version that is 12 ppm vs the 8 ppm of the 4
and 4M. Also, the 4+ and 4M+ can take a duplexer, which the 4 and 4M
cannot.
