Hi I have bought office 2003 so now have a cdrom of word 2000 going spare.
Is it worth anything or should I bin it? I was going to try and sell it on
EBay but after I registered they wanted my credit card details before I
could sell anything. As if I am going to give them that information.
Thanks Tricia

G'Day Tricia,

Do NOT bin it!!

Pass it on to a friend for a few bucks, or give
it to someone that cannot afford it.

If you still have the EULA to pass on, so much
the better.

If Office was purchased as a stand-alone (not with your computer), and your
Office 2003 was not an upgrade version, then, yes, you can resell it and it
is worth something. You can also give it to someone else or a charity if
those conditions are met. eBay requires a lot of info about sellers because
(1) it charges you a commission on sales, and (2) if software is sold in
violation of license or copyright, they can turn that info over to the
rightful owner for prosecution or suit.

Tricia,

To follow up something that may not be obvious: If your Office 2003
*is* an upgrade version, then you need to keep the old disk in case
you have a disk crash or virus infestation and need to reinstall 2003.
The installer will complain that it can't find a qualifying version on
the disk, and you'll need to insert the old CD in the drive to satisfy
it. If you've given away or sold the old CD, you're out of luck.

Also, put both the old and new CDs someplace where you'll be able to
find them a year or two from now, and be sure to keep the jewel case
with the 25-character product key. We get tons of questions from
people who've lost the key, asking how to get a new one, and it's a
real hassle for them.

My new Office is not an upgrade

Hi Tricia,

If you wanted to sell it via eBay, you will HAVE to give them that
information.
I would say that ebay are a reputable enough organisation that you can give
them your credit card details without too many worries, but if you have a
fundamental problem with giving your details to anyone on-line (a lot of
people do...) then I guess you could put an ad in your local paper, or try a
local 2nd hand computer shop or look for any Computer Fairs etc.that run
locally.

Cheers,
