Is it really Real Time Protection?

K

Kathie

I have all 3 of the Real Time Protection areas switched
on, however it appears when something does enter my
computer I get no message at all alerting me of this. The
first I know of it is when a scan is performed the
following morning and I see that there are now resident
programs that shouldn't be on my computer.

Also, when the program finishes scanning it doesn't leave
a message up to say what it's found but just closes again
so if I'm not near my computer at the time I don't even
know there is anything on my computer unless I open the
program to read the scan summary.

1. Shouldn't I receive some kind of warning when something
downloads itself and installs on the computer?

2. And shouldn't there be a report on my screen when I get
to my computer advising that there is something there -
although if the first applies then perhaps the second
isn't needed.

I cannot comment on the Antispy Hopefully the MVP's can
advise you on this but for real time protection that is
tried and tested go for these free products:

Spyware Blaster :

id=2859&file=11&evp=61b0e8ad41924a03c37615f4682b4cef

Spyware Guard :

p.exe

SpywareBlaster can help keep your system spyware-free and
secure, without interfering with the "good side" of the
web.

And unlike other programs, SpywareBlaster does not have
to remain running in the background.

SpywareGuard provides a real-time protection solution
against spyware that is a great addition to
SpywareBlaster's protection method.

Fast Real-Time Scanning engine - catch and block spyware
before it is executed (EXE and CAB files supported) with
signature-based scanning for known spyware and
heuristic/generic detection capabilities to catch
new/mutated spyware
Download Protection - prevent spyware from being download
in Internet Explorer
Browser Hijacking Protection - stop browser hijacking
activity in real-time

Is MSAS starting when you boot the computer? Does the MSAS icon appear
in the Task Bar Notification Area?

Hope this helps.

Hi Kathie,
I have all 3 of the Real Time Protection areas switched on, however it
appears when something does enter my computer I get no message at all
alerting me of this. The first I know of it is when a scan is performed
the following morning and I see that there are now resident programs that

Is the MWAS Icon, similar to a Bullseye, showing in your System Tray?
Also, when the program finishes scanning it doesn't leave a message up to
say what it's found but just closes again so if I'm not near my computer
at the time I don't even know there is anything on my computer unless I
open the program to read the scan summary.>
You can check it to report on screen after a scan has been done.
1. Shouldn't I receive some kind of warning when something downloads
itself and installs on the computer?>
I fall is well, and it's not from a trusted site, yes.
2. And shouldn't there be a report on my screen when I get to my computer
advising that there is something there - although if the first applies
then perhaps the second isn't needed.>
That's how it should be working. What is it that's sneaking downstream onto
your pc?
