Is it possible to use zooming and scrolling on a picture displayed in PowerPoint?

I would like to display large pictures in PowerPoint slides.

This can be done by shrinking the picture to fit the slide -- but then lots of detail will be lost.

Is there any way to display a picture on a PowerPoint slide so that it is possible to zoom in or out on the picture and to scroll over the picture, left and right, and up and down?

I use pptplex for zooming and scrolling in powerpoint, specifically when viewing large infographics (poster format).

Google for pptplex and you will find a download link in the microsoft lab pages.
Alternative is also available, called zoomit.
Both addins are free.
