Is it possible to use a USB 2.0 harddrive with an older USB port?

I need to buy an harddrive.
I'm planning on buying a LaCie d2 120GB USB 2.0 but I only have a
regular USB port on my Dell Latitude. Will it be possible to use such
a device with my computer anyways?
Thank you for your help!

There are some that are backwards compatible, I believe Maxtor is one of
them... If you go to a computer store, it should specify it on the retail
box...

It will work but will be very, very, slow.
In your place I think I'd much rather buy a bigger/faster internal
drive and an (empty) external casing to reuse the original drive or
there's another possibility...

Perhaps your system will take a firewire card, then buy a firewire
(or same USB2) external drive? Firewire HDD is much faster, or of
course USB2 would be too.
